Artist Statement
Krissy Morency’s work is a reflection of her life, woven through abstract, hand-built ceramic forms, multimedia paintings and intaglio prints. Shaped by her Canadian childhood, her sculptures embody personal themes, memories, and the larger-than-life women who have influenced her. Inspired by her grandmother’s basement art studio, she developed a love for bold colors and unique forms, later refining her own creative practice while studying ceramics and visual design at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Embracing imperfection, her hand built sculptures feature misaligned edges and organic structures, challenging traditional ceramic processes.
In addition to her ceramic work, she has built a career as a digital art director and user experience visual designer in the technology industry. Over the past decade, she has also explored multiple media artworks, incorporating intaglio and screen printing techniques. These processes allow her to layer texture and graphic elements, deepening her visual storytelling.
Her work often incorporates architectural themes—doorways symbolizing opportunity, greenhouses representing growth, and recurring forms mirroring life’s cyclical nature. Vibrant and unapologetic, her colors exude energy, celebrating strength, resilience, and joy. Through ceramics, printmaking, and design, Krissy creates work that embraces imperfection, honors her experiences, and reflects the ever-evolving journey of self-discovery.
